01.06.2012 (sf)
Next Thursday, June 7th, 2012, BR-KLASSIK broadcasts at 2 p.m. a 90-minute programme about the festival Musica Sacra International in Marktoberdorf.
Starting in 1992, the international festival „Musica Sacra“ takes place in the Allgäu region in the south of Germany. Every two years over Whitsun Weekend the visitors of the festival may experience the fascinating variety of spiritual music of the five major world religions. Musicians from all over the world meet in and around Marktoberdorf, district town of the Allgäu. This year, some facets of the Christian music were presented by the don camillo chor, who performed the Jazz-Requiem by Steve Gray, together with the via-nova-chor and the Landesjugendjazzorchester (Youth jazz bigband of the district Bavaria) under the direction of Florian Helgath. Furthermore, the don camillo chor had an appearance at the final concert of the festival.
Other choirs and ensembles performing Christian music came from Argentina, Sweden, Kongo, Armenia, Russia and Great Britain. Judaism was represented by the ensemble „Moran Singers“ and Yair Dalal, music from the Islam was presented by the singer Maryam Akhondy and the ensemble „Barbad“ from Iran, as well as by the ensemble „Fawzy Al-Aiedy Trio“ (France, Egypt, Tunesia, Irak). Hinduism was represented by the indian flutist Shantala Subramanyam, whereas the mongolian ensemble „Khuree Tsam“ gave impressions of the buddhist rituals with his mask dances.
